Golf in Ireland | Tralee Golf Club

Welcome to Golf in Ireland by Irish Property World, your source for information about all of the best properties in Ireland today!

When Arnold Palmer was commissioned to design his first golf course in Europe, he promised the expectant members of Tralee that he would build them a masterpiece. He kept his word. Palmer won the tender from a host of the world's leading golf course designers. All of them shared the common view that the site at Barrow was a rare one, bestowed by nature itself.

At Palmer's favourite part of the course, you will find the Castle backing onto the spectacular par-three 3rd hole. It conjures up the frightening aspect of a Pebble Beach and Cypress Point, where the mid iron tee shot has to be hit by the edge of the cliff and against the distracting background music of pounding Atlantic waves.

The lore of Tralee is captured in fanciful names assigned to some holes: Cú Chullain's Table, the narrow par-four 4th, where the great warrior Cú Chullain is said to have dined on his visits to Barrow with Fianna; Brandon, the quietly dog-legging 5th hole looking towards Mount Brendan and named after St. Brendan, the navigator who’s famous voyage is depicted in the club badge; the 7th hole called the Randy in deference to a meeting place of smugglers; Palmer's Peak, the long par-five 11th, offering panoramic views of the Dingle Peninsula; and the emotive Shipwreck, the dramatic par-three, steeply downhill 16th of around 190 yards, where lack of care could shipwreck your hopes among the rustic ruins of many wrecks.
