Golf in Ireland | Ballybunion Golf Club

Welcome to Golf in Ireland by Irish Property World, your source for information about all of the best properties in Ireland today!

Located just half a mile from the village of Ballybunion, lies this world famous golf links. The legendary Majors champion Tom Watson, and the renowned course architect Robert Trent Jones, are prominent among the many admirers. "Playing Ballybunion is similar in many respects to playing Cypress Point in America, and I like that style of golf. There appear to be no man-made influences and Ballybunion is a course on which many golf architects should live and play before they build golf courses".

The person who said this was none other than Tom Watson and Herbert Warren Wynd added that "this is the most beautiful coastal golf course I have ever seen...". Ballybunion, lying directly on the spectacular North Kerry coast, between the Mouth of the Shannon and Kerry Head, can hardly be surpassed with regard to its scenic beauty, the tranquillity of its surroundings, the excellent condition of the course and the variety of challenge presented by its 36 championship holes.

The visitor is faced with the difficult choice between the picturesque, 'Old' course, with its fairways winding through colossal dunes, and the new creation by Robert Trent Jones. On the Old Course, the visitor's confidence crumbles very quickly when, after the first five relatively comfortable holes, he catches sight of the sixth. This is without a doubt one of the prettiest in Ballybunion, but it is equally obvious that it is extremely tricky to play. And for the ‘diabolical’ 8th and the rather long 15th, he will surely need every club his bag has to offer. The New Course, with its succession of formidable par fives and breathtaking beauty amply qualifies as one of the world's masterpieces.
